My Business Leadership Coaching Model

There are a set of leadership competencies that can transform how you lead yourself and how effectively you are at leading others. Knowing what those leadership competencies are, assessing where you stand, and then determining a developmental agenda for your leadership training is critical.  Otherwise, how do you know where to begin? You may be asking yourself,

  • Where do we need to prioritize business leadership development?
  • What do we need to focus on to position ourselves for success in key business areas?
  • Where do we need to be creating awareness, grounding, and vision to overcome barriers?
  • How can we describe “current state” as a baseline and let that inform or compare to our aspiration?
  • Are there dynamics we should investigate further along demographic lines?

Let’s start by assessing where your leadership team stands, by looking at the following personal and professional competency areas. Three Relational and three Task. How would you and your senior leaders measure yourself and your team?

Relational Competencies:

  • Relating to others = to bring out the best in others.
  • Interpersonal Intelligence = to listen, engage in conflict and controversy, to be with the feelings of others, and to manage one’s own feelings.
  • Authenticity = integrity – to be trusted to walk your talk & courage – willing to bring up the “undiscussables” and openly deal with difficult issues and relationship problems. 

Task Competencies:

  • Productivity = to maintain or enhance human/technical resources to sustain long-term high performance. 
  • Achievement = goal directed with a track record of goal achievement and high performance. 
  • Purposeful & Visionary = to clearly communicate and model commitment to purpose and vision.
